At CES 2024, Mercedes introduces Dolby Atmos support to audiobooks and Amazon Music

At CES 2024, Mercedes-Benz will present an expanded lineup of Dolby Atmos-compatible music options. You’ll be able to listen to Amazon Music and even Audible with spatial audio in addition to Apple Music in Dolby Atmos, which we awarded our 2023 Technology of the Year winner.

Upon first testing Mercedes’ Dolby Atmos audio services, one of our few complaints was the restricted platform availability, since it necessitated an Apple Music membership for functionality. Increasing accessibility to songs in spatial audio format will benefit more people by being open to Amazon songs. Audible is an additional benefit that goes beyond the music component of the list. Although we’ve never experienced spatial audio for audiobooks, we’re eager to see how it may enhance the immersive aspects of reading a novel, especially in light of how amazing music listening can get. Mercedes states that Audible now only offers “dozens” of titles in Dolby Atmos, so the catch for now will just be availability.

The third quarter of 2024 is anticipated to see the worldwide release of this new Dolby Atmos material. Although Mercedes states that “a further rollout is planned for successive models in the future,” the revised E-Class and CLE-Class will be the first to receive the update. Mercedes also says it will be providing participants with inside looks at the new E-Class during CES, so if you chance to be there, that’s great news.
